Born and raised on the Connecticut shoreline, Paul began playing professionally while still in high school. His bands performed throughout the Tri-State area and opened shows for legends such as Bo Diddley, Fats Domino and Jerry Lee Lewis. After graduating, he pursued a degree in Music Education at the University of Connecticut, then transferred to the Berklee College of Music in Boston to study Music Performance.
While in Boston, Paul studied privately with Mike Mangini (Extreme, Stevie Vai, Dream Theater), Joe Pet (The Joe Perry Project) and Skip Hadden (Weather Report). In 1989, along with bassist Rick Windle, he placed in the Top 10 of Boston’s Best Rhythm Section and then continued playing throughout New England until becoming the house drummer at Dick’s Last Resort (Boston) from 1994-2000.
He was a founding member of Blue Eyed Soul & Darling Picassos. Both bands were familiar headliners at Boston’s favorite venues including Mama Kin, Bill’s Bar, The Rat & The Kendall Café and opened for national artists such as Letters to Cleo, Tracy Bonham & Charlie Farren. Paul recorded, performed and toured with singer-songwriter Rob Gonzalez for 11 years, enjoying heavy college-radio airplay, TV & radio performances and several months on CMJ’s Top 200 before joining top Boston function band Classic Trax full-time. An opening act for artists such as The Gin Blossoms, Jessica Simpson & Colin Raye, the band has also performed with Sha Na Na saxophonist, Lennie Baker and blues guitarist Keb’ Mo’.
Paul continues to take on independent projects and teaches privately in his home studio when scheduling allows. Recent projects include tracking sound library grooves with drummer/producer Chris Lyons, finishing work on guitarist Trick Wallace’s upcoming CD and recording the debut CD of Trusty Sidekick.
